Make systems as simple as possible.
But...
make them as complex as necessary to keep things as simple as possible.
aka, "keep it simple."
(Funny, I just learned that Occam was not the inventor of that notion.)

This reminds me of one of my favorite Einstein quotes:
"Everything Should Be Made as Simple as Possible, But Not Simpler"
And of course, the 10th principle of Agile software development:
Simplicity--the art of maximizing the amount of work not done--is essential.
